Michelle Adams Fairfax County Obituary Death: Woman and Her Dog Tragically Killed in Beltway Road Rage Stabbing

A tragic and violent road rage attack on the Capital Beltway in Northern Virginia has left one woman and a dog dead, three others seriously injured, and the suspected attacker shot and killed by a Virginia State Police trooper.

Authorities say the incident unfolded Sunday afternoon on Interstate 495 southbound near Exit 52, between Gallows Road and Little River Turnpike, close to the Inova Fairfax Medical Campus in Fairfax County. What began as a vehicle crash quickly escalated into a horrifying stabbing rampage that stunned drivers and prompted a massive emergency response.

Police confirmed Monday that 39-year-old Michelle Adams was killed in the attack. She was among four people stabbed after a collision on the Beltway. According to investigators, the suspect exited his vehicle following the crash and began attacking individuals with a large knife.

Distressed drivers immediately called 911 as the chaos unfolded before them. In audio from police dispatch, a caller can be heard urgently reporting, “We’re getting multiple calls of a male subject stabbing several people.” Another voice clarified the rapidly developing situation: “It was a crash. Turned into a male stabbing people.”

Virginia State Police said a trooper arrived at the scene around 1:15 p.m. and encountered multiple victims suffering from stab wounds, along with a dog that had also been attacked. As the trooper approached, the suspect allegedly confronted the officer while still armed with the knife. Fearing for safety, the trooper discharged his weapon in what authorities described as self-defense.

The suspect was struck by gunfire and transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died. He was identified by police as 32-year-old Jared Llamado of McLean. The trooper was not injured during the encounter and has been placed on administrative leave in accordance with Virginia State Police policy while an internal investigation is conducted.

Michelle Adams succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The dog that was stabbed during the attack also died. The three additional victims were rushed to area hospitals with serious injuries. Medevac helicopters landed along the highway as emergency crews worked urgently to stabilize the wounded.

The Beltway was shut down for hours Sunday afternoon and into the evening, causing significant traffic disruptions as investigators processed the scene and first responders tended to victims.

Video footage posted to social media appears to show a man wielding a large knife during the attack. Virginia State Police acknowledged they are aware of the video circulating online. Due to the graphic and disturbing nature of the footage, media outlets have limited the images shown publicly.

Authorities emphasized that, despite heightened alert levels related to international tensions, the attack is not believed to be terrorism-related. Instead, investigators describe it as a road rage incident that spiraled violently out of control after the initial crash.

Drivers who witnessed or later learned of the tragedy expressed shock and disbelief. “There’s no reason to pull out a knife. I mean, what did that solve? Nothing,” one man said. “It could happen to everybody. Everybody just needs to cool down, calm down. There’s no need for it.” Another added, “Life is already life-ing right now and any additional dogs and people dying — all of it is just too much.”

Authorities are asking anyone with potentially relevant information about the incident to contact Virginia State Police as the investigation continues.
